Derby's historic Roundhouse building was given the Royal seal of approval when it was officially opened by Princess Anne on 5th October 2010.

The Princess was given a tour of the campus by college principal David Croll with presentations from Derby College's staff and students.

The climax of the visit was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the Roundhouse, watched by staff and specially-invited guests.

Before pulling the cord, the Princess congratulated everyone on the project and said:

"This is a great success for both Derby and the county. You have managed to preserve an important part of Derby's history and inspire people for the future."
