Waterside Retail Park is a mixed use development on a 36 acre reclaimed former factory site, approximately one mile from Ashbourne Town Centre, the gateway to the Peak District. The masterplan includes retail units, a hotel and speculative offices.
The retail units were developed as a response to the sensitive nature and location of the site within rural Derbyshire, whilst meeting the commercial aspirations of the Tenant’s requirements. This brief has influenced the palette of materials specified, including natural cedar and locally-sourced stone and the scale and form of the buildings. A two-storey, louvre-clad colonnade has been introduced to express the unit entrances and provide a device for connecting the individual units together. The louvres also provide a relief to the clad unit behind by way of the ever-changing shadows created.
