The TeenTech Festival encourages students to pursue careers in architecture with the help of maber.

Krishna Patel and Chisom Ogakwu of maber looked to inspire the next generation of architects at the TeenTech Festival in Leicester.

The festival, held at De Montfort University (DMU), invited KS3 and KS4 students to learn about possible careers in science, tech and architecture.

An area called the insight zone, where companies created an activity in a 15 minute repeatable format, saw maber take on the challenge of engaging with groups of five students at a time.

The vision was to inspire students to see Leicester as their own city and appreciate the existing infrastructure that shapes it.

This involved using an OS plan of the city centre with key street names and 3D printed models of major landmarks such as the cathedral, clock tower, and train station.

We even managed to sneak in one of our proudest projects, the King Richard III Visitor Centre.

Krishna and Chisom were curious as to which spaces the students used, asking them to think about how they move through the city and plot the landmarks on the plan based on where they thought they were.

The groups of students used tracing paper to sketch and diagram their own proposals, whilst being encouraged to think about placemaking and how they could positively change the city scape.

This offered students an insight into the world of architecture.

TeenTech was founded in 2008 and is an award scheme that supports and guides teenagers into contemporary careers to help them fulfil their potential.

Working alongside companies, universities and businesses, TeenTech looks to focus on regions of greater social need in the UK and Europe.

At maber we are proud to share industry expertise and inspire the next generation of architects. We are very excited to contribute and work with TeenTech again in the future!
