The students at Winstanley Community College have regained their swimming pool and it’s looking  great.

Sadly a fire a fire ripped through the roof last year and they have been without the use of the pool since then.

Now, the pool is back in action and the works have allowed a revamp of the original design. The burnt out flat roof has now got a built up barrel vault system and mismatched bricks on the outer walls have been replaced with a new insulated, cladded panel system, that improves both the look and efficiency of the building.

Around 80 per cent of the roof above the pool had been destroyed by the fire along with equipment in the pool building. We were inspired to improve the original design and create a modern space. The new roof is much more visually appealing, and it will make the experience of using the pool more enjoyable for students and other swimmers.

Gareth Williams, Principal at Winstanley Community College, commented: “We are thrilled that we will have our newly refurbished pool back in use again soon. Being without it over the last year has been a big loss to our students and the local community. Although the fire last year was devastating it has given us a unique opportunity to not only carry out the repairs but also improve the facilities of our much used pool. We are currently planning a grand opening so that we can showcase this fantastic asset to the public.”
