Work has started on site to improve the facilities at Leicester’s New Walk Museum.

A new main staircase and visitor lift are being installed at the City’s flagship museum, making the visitor attraction easily accessible to all. Previously, wheelchair and pushchair users struggled to reach the upper galleries and had to use a goods lift to get to them.

The design of the new staircase has been inspired by an ammonite fossil, with the sweeping form replicating the fossil’s natural geometry. It also reflects back to one of the museum’s popular collections – the natural world.

The entrance foyer and reception area are also being enhanced as part of the modernisation of this Grade II Listed Building.
