The retail units were developed as a response to the sensitive nature and location of the site within rural Derbyshire, whilst meeting the commercial aspirations of the Tenant’s requirements. This brief has influenced the palette of materials specified, including natural cedar and locally-sourced stone and the scale and form of the buildings.

A two-storey, louvre-clad colonnade has been introduced to express the unit entrances and provide a device for connecting the individual units together. The louvres also provide a relief to the clad unit behind by way of the ever-changing shadows created.

Landscape

The landscape design has a crucial role in welding together the diverse uses, softening the hard edges of the extensive car parking zones and creating an attractive environment for both public and business visitors alike.
