The £5m redesign and refurbishment of the existing six-storey building has created new laboratory and office accommodation and incorporates a new circulation core and reception area.

The Pennyfoot Street block of the building has been re-clad in black zinc and windows have been replaced throughout to provide a focal element to an important nodal point into the city centre. On part of the building, the green mosaic cladding has been repaired and improved, so as to retain the connection with the building’s past.

The new entrance and reception area has been designed to provide a new focal point to the building, which addresses both Pennyfoot Street and the BioCity site, and is fully DDA access-compliant. It has also been designed to reflect the future image and aspirations of BioCity.
