As part of a college wide £27.7 million investment program, a masterplan for the Brooksby Campus set out a comprehensive strategy to provide a new education complex comprising a multi-purpose education centre, sporting facilities, the upgrade of existing education facilities and associated access infrastructure.

maber landscape worked closely with the client and design team contributing to the planning and development process. The landscape design role required a conscientious approach mindful of the existing landscape characteristics of the site and its historic setting.

To inform the design process maber landscape produced a Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment that outlined appropriate mitigation strategies with the objective of integrating the new campus complex sympathetically with the existing landscape character.

The landscape assessment covered a 6km radius area, encompassing four landscape character areas in two Boroughs. Photomontage was used as part of the visual assessment and viewpoints were selected to cover the extent of the study area.

Soft landscaping strategies were developed for the planning application. A woodland edge shelter belt and the restoration and establishment of native hedgerows formed part of the landscape design strategy.

As the landscaping matures it will enhance the setting of the new campus, whilst preserving open vistas and maintaining the existing character of the surrounding landscape.
