The challenging brief called for an iconic design in a bowl arena, with associated hospitality and commercial accommodation as well as car parking. Positioned on a flood plain and constrained by a BOC pipeline and easements, the site added to the complexity of the design.
Located on the edge of Rotherham town centre adjacent to the new Council offices and sitting on the west bank of the River Don. The site benefits from fantastic views of Rotherham and its historic Minster, perched above the River Don to the East.
Our design proposed locating the main stand facing the town, so that the hospitality boxes and Directors’ suite took full advantage of the spectacular views towards the town, whilst also having the advantage of being shaded from the late afternoon sun during the winter months. This stand was covered with an over-sailing roof and has the capacity for future expansion.
The other three sides were designed as a single tier with a simpler roof providing shelter. The completed proposal provides an iconic stadium.
