This new two-storey extension was developed in response to the School’s desire to provide a stimulating environment for its pupils, and to Leicester City Council Conservation Team’s wish to provide a striking modern design, accessible to all, that complements the traditional Victorian style of the existing school.

An intrinsic element of the new building design was to create a visually stimulating and modern addition, contrasting with the red brick of the existing school whilst respecting the fabric of this Grade II Listed building.

A Listed building is often an inherently hostile environment to those with limited mobility and other disabilities.

The provision of a fully inclusive environment was a design priority from the inception of the scheme and it is a fitting testament that this was achieved, despite the constraints of the historic fabric.

Level entrances make the school fully accessible for all. A new lift provides access to all rooms and storeys and a colour and signage scheme allows easy navigation for the partially and non-sighted.
