The batch is the first of the PF2 (PFI) batches of new build schools comprising 7 new build secondary schools across Hertfordshire, Luton and Reading. Of the batch, maber designed and delivered 3 schools.

Working collaboratively, maber developed standardised details and designs to respond to the very different school briefs and site constraints. The new buildings deliver against the challenging environmental criteria of the updated Facilities Output Specification. The fabric first approach with increased insulation values and air tightness means that the performance is well over that of the standard Building Regulation requirements.

The integrated and cost effective designs have been produced to a Level 2 BIM Protocol; sharing, clash-detecting and federating building models from each discipline to fully understand and communicate the emerging designs. Each school is based around a central fully glazed street that provides an exciting and inspiring heart to each school.
